The 12th Annual Hero Honda STAR Screen Awards took place last night in Mumbai, with 5 laughter champions from the STAR One's comedy show "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge" hosting the ceremony.

Abhishek Bachchan bagged the award for Best Actor in a Comic Role for his part in Bunty Aur Babli, while Nana Petakar was honoured as Best Actor in a Negative Role for Apaharan.

Shinay Ahuja and Vidya Balan won awards for Best Newcomers for roles in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Parineeta respectively. The Best Director award was given to Pardeep Sarkar for Parineeta.

Shankar Ehsan Loy won best music director for Bunty Aur Babli. Gulzar won the Best Lyricist award for Naam Ada from the Yahaan. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal received the Best Male and Female Vocalist for Dheere Jalna from Paheli and Piya Bole from Parineeta respectively.

Veteran action director Veeru Devgan got the unsung hero award. He was accompanied on stage by daughter-in-law Kajol who praised him saying: "He might be a fantastic technician and a great human being but he is the best father-in-law in the whole world."

Akshay Kumar, Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty and Zayed Khan all performed to a packed crowd, with leading television personalities also chipping. The latter being a first for a Bollywood award show.

However, the night was incomplete, as the announcements for the major 6 awards were not disclosed. The awards for Best Actor, Actress, Film, and Director will be unveiled on Star Plus this weekend.
