Abhishek Bachchan was adjudged the Best Actor in comic role, while Nana Patekar was named the Best Actor in a negative role at the glittering ceremony of 12th annual Screen Awards on Wednesday in Mumbai.

The star-studded show, held at the NSE Grounds in Goregaon, saw on-stage performances by Rani Mukherjee, Bipasha Basu, Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty and Zayed Khan.

Abhishek Bachchan, who had a remarkably good 2005, won the Best Actor in a Comic Role award for his performance in Bunty Aur Babli.

Abhishek's mother Jaya Bachchan was in the audience when Abhi walked up the stage to accept the award. Pointing to his mother, Abhi said: "I hope this will cheer you up."

Nana Patekar received the Best Actor in a Negative Role award for Prakash Jha's movie Apaharan.

Vidya Balan won the Most Promising Newcomer (female) award for her acting in Parineeta. Vidya was named in the ApunKaChoice Bureau's Year-end review as the most promising newcomer of the year.

Shiney Ahuja won the Most Promising Newcomer (male) for his performance in "Hazaaron Khawashein Aisi."

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-acclaimed Black bagged four awards - Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound and Best Background Score.

Nagesh Kukunoor's Iqbal and Sudhir Mishra's Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi were awarded the first Ramnath Goenka Memorial Awards.

Sweta Prasad and Naseeruddin Shah were honoured for Best Supporting Roles (in Iqbal).

Gulzar : Best Lyricist (For song "Naam Ada" from Yahaan)

Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal : Best Singers

Veeru Devgun : Best Action Director award

Ayesha Kapoor : Best Child Actor (Black)

The names of the winners in the first six major categories, including best director, best film, best actor male and female will be disclosed when the show is telecast on Jan 15 on Star Plus.
