A R Rahman's composition 'Nanha re' in Mani Ratnam's Guru has a history behind it. Apparently, the original song was composed to Aishwarya's introductory scene, where she was supposed to be cycling. However, Aishwarya met with an accident while rehearsing the sequence and was unable to cycle after the injury.
This only meant that the entire sequence had to be reworked and the song had to be composed again. Ratnam asked Rahman to do the needful.
"Mani Sir was worried about Aishwarya's condition and when she recovered he realised that she would not be able to cycle. Hence he thought of changing the concept of the song," says our source.
When contacted through email, Rahman replied, "We had to shoot an introduction song and at the end of the song Aishwarya escapes from the scene. At that time, Mani wanted to shoot the song on a cycle, and show her passing through the village. He approached me to compose the song with this situation in mind. The lyrics were written by Gulzarsaab. The song, the tune and the words and everything else was centred around the energy of cycling. Once the song was ready, Mani asked Aishwarya to learn cycling. However, unfortunately Ash met an accident she fell down off the cycle. So, we had to scrap this song. And we had just two days to picturise the song. That is how I composed 'Nanha re' for Guru."
