Sharbari Dutta, who has designed Abhishek Bachchan's trousseau collection, reveals what the Rais are gifting their son-in-law-to-be....

It's not Abhishek's star status that Sharbari Dutta can't get over. The Kolkata-based designer, who has designed the trousseau collection that the Rais are gifting their damaad, still finds it hard to believe that she's designed for a guy who's 6 ft 3 inches!

Vrinda Rai, Aishwarya's mother, gave Sharbari till January 22 to complete the collection, and though she says it was a tall task, Sharbari sent it off right on time.

"Vrinda Rai wanted me to make a complete collection for Abhishek that they will be gifting him soon," she says. "When I asked his height – because I always knew that he was a tall boy – Vrinda told me he was 6ft 3inches tall. I had nothing in my ready-to-wear collection for a 6ft 3inches tall fellow! So I had to stitch specifically for him."

And how did she like Abhishek? "He never came to me for his measurements because this is a gift from the Rais to their son-in-law. So there was no point in him flying down to Kolkata for the measurements. Vrinda has really liked the trousseau."

"Abhishek is a very handsome boy and I knew making a collection for him would not be difficult," says Sharbari, adding, "I have made kurtas and many other things that I am not allowed to disclose."

But how did Vrinda and Sharbari meet? "In 2003, when Choker Bali was being shot, Vrinda had bought two shawls for Aishwarya. She really liked my stuff. Later the same year, Aishwarya called me to say that she really liked my work. She had also promised to come to my store whenever she came to Kolkata next. Vrinda Rai called me on January 16 for a special task and said she had not approached anyone but me. I was glad she remembered me for this special occasion."

"They also wanted me to make some special shawls for them," says Sharbari. "But if I would have started making shawls at this time, it would have taken me two months to finish them. So I have sent them some of my previously made shawls."
