Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan's plans for promoting their upcoming film Sarkar Raj went awry due to the recent outburst of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.

Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek was supposed to do a promotional rally at Shivaji Park . The rally was to be like a rally that takes place in the film and Bachchan with the cast would have addressed the public at the venue where several political rallies are held.

The makers of the film had planned out the event and even hired an event management agency to organise the rally. A source from the company says, “The event was being planned as a mock political rally which was supposed to be held on May 25 and we were asked to handle the event. We had also planned to publicise the event by using pamphlets and banners. But we have been asked to withhold all the preparations for now. “

Raj Thackeray's latest tirade against the Bachchans forced the producers and the organisers to rethink their decision.
A source from Sarkar Raj's production house says, “Apart from the politically charged atmosphere, the security concern of the Bachchans was also one of the factors why the rally has been called off. ”

When contacted, Ram Gopal Varma was surprise at the leak of the information. “We were all tightlipped about it. Yes, we have planned something, but given the current political scenario it may not be possible to do so right now.”
