| They are almost an extension of us. No wonder, most of us want them to be as chic as ever. No, we aren’t talking about some fancy nail art that is the latest fad, but about the nation’s obsession for the past few years—mobile phones. And it’s no different when it comes to our superstars, for whom a trendy handset is a must-flaunt accessory!
But interestingly, for some stars, mobiles mean just functionality. The country’s, rather Asia’s most expensive star Rajnikanth carries the most basic of all phones—the Nokia 3310—which is not even in circulation any more.
Amitabh Bachchan uses a Nokia 6300, which currently retails for a little more than Rs 7,000 and also carries a Nokia N73 (around Rs 13,000). His son, Abhishek Bachchan though, doesn’t believe in frugality and carries the best of Motorola phones (which, of course he endorses). More recently, he seems to be smitten by Apple’s latest offering too.
Moreover, the Nokia 6300 seems quite popular with stars—Lara Dutta uses one. Katrina Kaif too carries a basic model, we are told, but beau Salman Khan has a trendy piece. Television queen Ekta Kapoor carries a Nokia N72, which retails for around 7,800. Not much for a lady who monopolises the soap empire!
Also, while Shah Rukh Khan uses the latest Nokia Communicator model, Ranbir Kapoor can’t seem to do without his iPhone.
There are of course some stars who are not taken in by the mobile craze at all and prefer to keep themselves far from the cell madness. Aamir Khan, for one, prefers not to keep one on his person, as does lyricist Gulzar. Film maker Rajat Kapoor too doesn’t keep a mobile phone, simply, because he ‘doesn’t need one’. Well, that’s what we call thinking differently!
