MUMBAI: Dharma Productions' Dostana, which released on 14 November, has received a warm opening across multiplexes in the country.
The movie is running at an average occupancy of 75 - 80 per cent and even has houseful shows on Friday morning across various properties.
The buzz for the movie is high, as are the expectations. The movie is likely to pick up Friday evening onwards and is expected to do well over the weekend.
Some multiplex chains even feel that Dostana's collection at the box office will be better than the recently released Golmaal Returns, which did a business of Rs 720 million (Rs 72 crores) gross at the box office in one week.
However a multiplex official on condition of anonymity was quick to add, "Golmaal released during holidays and did very good business at single screens and multiplexes. However Dostana is a multiplex and overseas centric movie, so it will have its earning on that front only."
This week Dostana is sharing screen space with Vinay Pathak and One More Thought's Dasvidanya. Fun Cinemas assistant vice president programming Bhumika Tewari says, "Dasvidaniya has opened with a middling collection of 20 per cent. We are expecting the movie to pick up during the weekend through word of mouth the same way Bheja Fry did."
