One of India's most famous actors has thrown down a challenge for Hollywood celebrities to perform in more Bollywood productions in Asia.

Abhishek Bachchan told CNN's Becky Anderson that he believes the world is waking up to the importance of Bollywood in the west and that more Hollywood actors will migrate east.

"The lines are blurring, there's a lot of exchange in terms of talent -- technical as well as acting between European, British, American and Indian cinema," Bachchan said on Connect the World.

"I don't see a big deal about Hollywood and I'd rather ask when are they going to come and act in our films and dance around trees with 50 people."

The son of Bollywood stars Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek is generally regarded as the Brad Pitt of the east.

The star has been in nearly 50 films throughout his career and has helped the Indian film industry gross millions of dollars.

It's a position that Bachchan is fully aware of.

"India's very passionate about films; it's almost a second religion back home," Bachchan said.

"When you are in the public eye then you need to behave and act in a responsible way and make a difference if you can."

With the influence of his family -- who many in India consider royalty -- Bachchan always had a passion for film.

"I've been consumed by acting since I was a child -- my grandfather was a famous poet, my parents were actors, and a lot of my friends when I grew up were related to the film industry," Bachchan said.

"I would most definitely be an actor trying to get a job if I wasn't an actor."
