Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6, which won two National Awards, was submitted to the National Awards jury with an alternative ending which the general public has not seen so far.

In the ending that we saw for Delhi 6 when it opened in February 2009, Abhishek Bachchan's character survives after being wounded. In the alternative which the National awards committee saw, Abhishek's character dies.

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who directed Abhishek Bachchan for the first time in "Delhi-6", says he is a "pedigree" actor and is far more "blessed" than his parents Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan.

"In terms of balance, Abhishek is far more blessed than both his parents. He is a thoroughbred and a pedigree. He has styles from both his mother and father but possesses the sensitivity and softness of his mother," Mehra told IANS.

MUMBAI: Two of Hollywood’s major studios - Fox Searchlight (Slumdog Millionaire) and Sony Pictures Classic - and two independent studios - Lions Gate and Independent Film Channel (IFC) - are believed to be looking at picking up the rights for Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra-made Delhi-6 for a mainstream North American release.

This is the first time that a Hollywood studio, major or independent, is looking at picking up a Hindi film after it has already been released in the US market.

So simple from above and yet so lusciously layered beneath, Delhi 6 does what its director's last work Rang De Basanti did so spectacularly. It pushes the boundaries of cinematic entertainment almost beyond the brink. But catches its breath just in time in an exhilarating exhalation of enchanting thoughts, images and characters that seem to convey the truth about life without obstructing the truth about cinema.

The Abhishek Bachchan-Sonam Kapoor starrer Delhi 6 raked in a Rs. 330 million (33 crore) opening weekend. Its collections in India were around 28 crores gross.

The film had in fact increased collections on Saturday from Friday the day before and after the weekend, Monday was very steady, despite many predicting a crash on Saturday itself, and then Tuesday ended up being almost equally stable. In fact several theaters had 10 pm shows on even Tuesday reporting sellouts.

DELHI 6 released worldwide on Friday, February 20th, to a strong response at the box office worldwide.

The film grossed Rs. 27.50 crores in 3 days across 945 screens in India. This is higher than the opening weekend collections of blockbusters such as JODHAA AKBAR, DOSTANA and TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, and the biggest opening ever for a solo Abhishek Bachchan starrer.

New Delhi (PTI): Abhishek Bachchan's marathon seven-city promotional tour for "Delhi-6" may have kept the security staff busy in managing his fans and led to some moviegoers missing their films but the actor exuded confidence in getting his name listed in the record books.

As the actor rushed from one city to another in his attempt to get the feedback of audiences in different cinema halls, his fans were there all the time.
